Ochei’s State-of-the-Art Mini Stadium Passes Test At Onicha Olona Unity Cup
An impressive, FIFA-standard mini stadium, complete with tartan tracks, constructed by the President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, has successfully undergone its inaugural test. The facility in Onicha Olona, Delta State, recently hosted the 2025 Grassroots Football Tournament, drawing football enthusiasts, community leaders, and young talent from across the region. The new sporting complex received widespread acclaim for its quality and functionality.
Speaking at the event, Victor Ochei explained that the project stemmed from a strong desire to provide essential sporting infrastructure at the grassroots level, thereby complementing governmental efforts in sports development. He highlighted that the mini stadium boasts standard fan barricades, an efficient drainage system, covered spectator stands, and other modern features designed to meet international best practices.
Ochei revealed that the facility, although already operational, will be officially inaugurated in 2026. It is expected to serve as a crucial training hub for aspiring footballers, local league teams, and even national squads.
“This stadium is about giving young talents the right environment to grow. When you provide quality infrastructure at the grassroots, you create opportunities and hope for the future,” he stated.
The Nigeria Tennis Federation president also confirmed the NTF board’s full readiness for the 2026 Davis Cup in February, expressing confidence in his administration’s vision for tennis. He urged the Nigerian tennis community to remain optimistic, emphasising that brighter days are ahead under his strategic plans to elevate the sport both domestically and internationally.
The tournament culminated in a thrilling final of the 2025 Onicha Olona Unity Cup, where Ogbekenu Quarters triumphed over Ogbe-Obi Quarters with a 3–2 victory in a pulsating encounter. Ogbekenu Quarters were awarded a grand prize of ₦3 million, bringing the tournament to a vibrant and celebratory close.
The successful hosting of the competition further underscored the new facility’s readiness and impact, reinforcing Victor Ochei’s dedication to grassroots sports development and youth empowerment.
