‘My Mom Asked Me To Leave My Ex For Rihanna’ – A$AP Rocky
American rapper A$AP Rocky has disclosed that his mother had long wanted him to be in a relationship with Rihanna, revealing that she once advised him to end a relationship he was in with another woman and pursue the global pop star instead.
In an interview with The New York Times, Rocky said he and Rihannah were only friends at the time and he had no plans to take the relationship beyond that.
He explained that he was thankful they did not get together earlier, as neither of them was ready for a serious commitment or family life then.
“Rihanna has always been my boo. I’ve always f*cked with her. My mother used to say, ‘I know you like this girl you’re with right now, but I want you with Riri,’” he said.
Rocky added that he repeatedly told his mother that Rihanna was just a friend, but she insisted otherwise. “She would say Rihanna is a real one and that I should go for her. I’m telling you, mothers know best,” he said.
According to the rapper, the timing of their relationship was perfect. “I’m thankful that my relationship with Rihanna started when it did. At any time before then, I don’t think I was ready for something like that. I don’t think she was either,” he said.
A$AP Rocky and the popular pop star grew closer after he joined her Diamond Tour in 2013. Speculation about their romance began in early 2020, shortly after Rihanna ended her three-year relationship with billionaire businessman Hassan Jameel.
Rocky previously dated model Kendall Jenner between 2016 and 2017.
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky now have three children together.
