JAMB Clarifies Its Role in NYSC Mobilization for ND Part-time and HND Graduates
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued an important clarification regarding its role in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilization process for National Diploma (ND) part-time and Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates across Nigeria.
According to the Board, its primary responsibility is to ensure that all admissions into tertiary institutions whether for full-time or part-time programmes are properly processed and captured in the JAMB Central Admission Processing System (CAPS). This step, JAMB explained, is crucial to validate the academic status of every graduate participating in the NYSC mobilization exercise.
What JAMB Said
In a statement released through its official communication channels, JAMB noted that many ND part-time and HND graduates encounter challenges during NYSC mobilization because their admissions were not properly regularized through JAMB.
The Board emphasized that only candidates whose admissions are recognized by JAMB and are properly reflected in its database are eligible for NYSC mobilization or exemption letters. This means that even those who studied under part-time or sandwich programmes must have their admissions regularized before they can be considered for NYSC processing.
“Our role is to ensure that every admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions is authentic, approved, and captured in our system. Graduates whose admissions are not on our record will face difficulties in being mobilized for NYSC or obtaining exemption certificates,” JAMB stated.
Guidelines for ND Part-time and HND Graduates
JAMB advised all affected graduates to visit its nearest office or accredited centre to regularize their admissions. This process involves confirming the validity of their admission details and obtaining a JAMB registration number if they do not already have one.
For ND part-time graduates proceeding to HND, it is mandatory to regularize their ND admission with JAMB before applying for NYSC mobilization after completing their HND programme.
Why This Matters
The clarification aims to eliminate confusion among graduates and institutions regarding the roles of JAMB and NYSC in the mobilization process. It also helps to ensure transparency, uniformity, and authenticity in academic records, preventing future complications during national service or job applications.
Steps to Regularize Admission
1. Visit any JAMB office or approved CBT centre.
2. Apply for Admission Regularization.
3. Provide your ND or HND admission letter and other required documents.
4. Make the necessary payments online.
5. Wait for JAMB approval and issuance of a valid registration number.
Conclusion
JAMB’s latest clarification serves as an important reminder for all part-time and HND graduates to regularize their admissions before applying for NYSC mobilization. This proactive step will save time, prevent disqualification, and ensure a smooth mobilization process.
