FG Orders Immediate Closure of 41 Unity Colleges Over Escalating Security Threats
The Federal Government has directed the immediate shutdown of 41 Federal Unity Colleges across the country following rising security concerns and renewed attacks on schools.
The decision, announced in a circular issued on November 21, 2025, by the Federal Ministry of Education, was approved by the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu Alausa. The circular, signed by the Director of Senior Secondary Education, Hajia Abdulkadir, instructed principals of the affected schools to enforce the closure without delay.
According to the Ministry, the move became necessary due to recent security breaches in parts of the country, particularly the North-West, North-East, North-Central, and select southern states.
“Sequel to the recent security challenges in some parts of the country and the need to prevent any security breaches, the Honourable Minister of Education has approved the immediate closure of the listed Federal Unity Colleges (FUCs). Principals are to ensure strict compliance,” the statement read.
