Davido To Join Accord Party In Osun
Grammy-nominated Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has announced plans to formally join the Accord Party, following the defection of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Davido disclosed on Tuesday via his social media pages that he would be in Osogbo to collect his Accord Party membership card at the Osun State Government House.
“I will be live in Osun to pick up my @AccordPartyNG membership card @ Imole House, Osogbo tomorrow… see you soon accordingly,” he wrote, while tagging the governor.
The development comes days after Governor Adeleke officially defected to the Accord Party and declared his intention to seek re-election in the 2026 governorship election.
The governor announced his defection on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Osogbo, in the presence of national and state leaders of the Accord Party.
“I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely on November 6, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026. This was after weeks of consultation and deliberations with stakeholders and opinion leaders,” Adeleke said.
He explained that the decision was driven by the need to sustain his administration’s governance agenda.
“Stakeholders and residents of Osun State are aware of why we are taking this important decision. We intend to pursue a second term in office on the platform of the Accord Party to complete the ongoing delivery of good governance and democratic dividends, which have been applauded at home and abroad,” he stated.
Adeleke added that the party’s ideology aligned with his administration’s priorities.
“I chose the Accord Party because its welfarist philosophy aligns with our focus on citizens’ welfare,” he said.
Welcoming party leaders to the Government House, the governor declared unity and continuity as the administration moves toward the 2026 polls.
“You are now part of us, as I am also now part of you. We are united in progress and good intentions for the good people of Osun State and Nigeria at large,” he said.
“At this historical point, our task is to sustain a united front as we prepare for the elections. We have a duty to ensure inclusive leadership where the interests of all groups are considered.”
Describing Accord as the platform for continuity, Adeleke expressed confidence in electoral victory.
“Osun voted for good governance in 2022, and they will support continuity in 2026. The masses of our people are for continuity, and Accord is our party for victory next year,” he added.
Recall that Governor Adeleke formally announced his resignation from the PDP on December 1, citing persistent leadership crisis at the party’s national level.
In a statement shared on his Instagram page, he confirmed submitting his resignation letter on November 4, 2025, to PDP officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area.
“Due to the ongoing crisis within the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (#OfficialPDPNig) at the national level, I officially conveyed my resignation letter as a member to the party leadership in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government on November 4, 2025,” he said.
Davido had earlier reacted to his uncle’s resignation by reposting the announcement on social media with the caption, “Jeje…”.
