Popular Skit Maker ‘Sunshine’ Dies After Surgery Complications
Nigerian skit maker and content creator, Esther Thomas, widely known as ‘Sunshine’, has passed away.
Her family confirmed the news in a statement shared on Instagram, revealing that she died on Friday, January 9, 2026, following complications from a surgery to remove fibroids.
“With pain in our hearts, we regret to announce the sudden demise of our beloved sister and daughter, Esther Thomas, who passed away after an unsuccessful surgery,” the family wrote.
According to fellow content creator, Chidera Madu, Sunshine first began experiencing severe stomach pain on December 28, 2025. She was reportedly admitted to Orchid General Hospital, where she received only pain relief due to an ongoing doctors’ strike.
Madu explained that she was later transferred to another hospital on January 2, 2026, for proper medical care. Sunshine subsequently underwent surgery to remove fibroids, a procedure doctors initially described as successful, but complications later developed, leading to her death.
