Google Rolls Out “Preferred Sources” Feature Globally — Users Can Now Prioritise Their Favourite News Outlets
Google has officially expanded its “Preferred Sources” feature worldwide, giving users more control over the type of news they see in search results.
The feature, which was initially tested among limited users, now allows people to select their preferred news publishers so that Google Search can prioritise stories from those outlets whenever they appear relevant.
According to Google, the update is part of ongoing efforts to offer more personalised, trustworthy, and user-controlled search experiences. Once activated, the feature boosts articles from chosen publishers in the Top Stories carousel, news search panels, and regular search results.
Early reactions show that many users appreciate the increased transparency, especially at a time when news fatigue and misinformation concerns are rising. The global rollout is expected to benefit both users and newsrooms by improving visibility for publishers that audiences trust most.
Google says the feature will continue to evolve as more users customise their news preferences.
