CKay’s ‘Love Nwantiti’ Makes History as First Solo Nigerian Song to Hit 1 Billion Streams on Spotify

Nigerian singer-producer CKay has set a new continental record as his global smash hit “Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah)” officially crossed 1 billion streams on Spotify, making it the first solo Nigerian song to reach the milestone.

Released in 2019, the track has enjoyed massive worldwide popularity especially on TikTok fueling covers, remixes, and chart dominance across multiple countries. The new streaming benchmark firmly extends CKay’s influence as one of Africa’s most successful international acts.

Celebrating the achievement on X (formerly Twitter), CKay expressed gratitude, writing:

“First solo Nigerian song to cross 1 billion streams. Grateful to God and the people involved in this historic success! Thank you for streaming.”

How CKay’s Achievement Fits Into Africa’s Billion-Stream Milestones

  • Wizkid became the first African artist ever to enter Spotify’s 1 Billion Club in 2017 through his collaboration with Drake on “One Dance,” which also earned a Guinness World Record as the first song to hit 1 billion streams on Spotify.
  • Rema is the first African lead artist to surpass 1 billion Spotify streams, thanks to the global success of the “Calm Down” remix featuring Selena Gomez.
  • Tyla made history as the first African female artist to achieve 1 billion streams with her viral chart-topper “Water.”

With this latest accomplishment, CKay joins a rare league of African stars breaking global streaming barriers reinforcing the worldwide rise of Afrobeats and African pop music.
