Tinubu Approves Recruitment of 30,000 Additional Police Officers, Raising 2025 Intake to 50,000

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 30,000 additional police officers into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), increasing the total number of new intakes for 2025 to 50,000 personnel.

The decision comes as part of the administration’s broader plan to strengthen national security, improve response capabilities, and close manpower gaps within the force.

According to senior government sources, the recruitment expansion aligns with the President’s renewed commitment to tackling insecurity in all regions of the country. The move is expected to significantly boost police presence in local communities while enhancing counter-terrorism, intelligence gathering, and community policing efforts.

A Major Step Toward Strengthening Security

The Nigeria Police Force has faced consistent challenges with inadequate manpower, which has affected operations in rural and urban areas. With the additional approval:

  • State police commands will receive more officers
  • Patrol and surveillance operations will improve
  • Community policing will be expanded
  • Response time to emergencies will reduce

Security analysts believe the move could help in addressing rising cases of kidnapping, banditry, and armed robbery across the country.

Recruitment Will Follow Due Process

Authorities say the recruitment of the 30,000 officers will follow the standard Police Service Commission (PSC) and NPF guidelines. The process is expected to prioritize transparency, professionalism, and equal opportunity for qualified applicants across the 36 states and the FCT.

The Police Service Commission is expected to release updated application details, timelines, and eligibility requirements in the coming days.

Boost for Youth Employment

Beyond security, the recruitment drive will also provide a major boost to job opportunities, especially for young Nigerians seeking careers in law enforcement. With a combined total intake of 50,000 officers, this is one of the largest recruitment waves in the country’s recent history.

Government Reaffirms Commitment to National Safety

President Tinubu emphasized that strengthening the police force remains central to his security reform agenda. The additional officers, once trained and deployed, will support the fight against crime and ensure a safer environment for citizens and businesses.

More updates on the recruitment schedule and application portal will be released soon.
